My Writing Experiences Essay

I started to compose piece in my highschool years. Right off the bat I was educated to writecomposition by getting ready framework and afterward directing it. Our english educator gave us varioushomeworks on various points. Right off the bat we used to compose it in Turkish at that point decipher it intoEnglish, so we could commit a great deal of errors. It was either a report about a book we read, movie we viewed, or a theme from the teacherâ's sheet. However, he generally needed to us obeygrammatical and punctuational rules while composing, althought we didnâ't have the foggiest idea about these principles verywell. Along these lines I could just write in a constrained manner with a restricted information I had. On noaccount was I eager to write in highschool since I had a feeling that I had to writesomething. It appears there would have been a period in these years whenever I would have hadthe chance to expound on something I needed to expound on. Notwithstanding, with all the ot herwriting assignments we needed to do that didnâ't energize me, itâ's difficult to recollect the goodones. It changed a little when I was below average. Our new educator presented some newthings.Sometimes he passed out our classmatesâ' papers to us which I loved very much, wecould have encounters by observing their missteps. Now and again he asked to us dissect his ownwritings and we got the opportunity get some various thoughts regarding what sort of subtleties acomposition must incorporate. I preferred this educator however I despite everything wasnâ't battled. Whenever I entered theuniversity delighted in finding the opportunity to communicate recorded as a hard copy. With the aides of my newcomposition instructor I took in a great deal of new methods about how to compose a creation. Ourcomposition educator asked to us make conceptualizing before begin to compose a creation. Itwas difficult to pass on the entirety of my musings and emotions to only a basic bit of paper beforethis course. Our educator allowed us to communicate recorded as a hard copy. Consequently, by usingwriting, we can have a substantial point of view toward who we are as authors and all the more critically, whowe are as people. On account of my sythesis instructor I can pass on the entirety of my contemplations topaper. All through my instructive experience hitherto, I have reasoned that I have thenecessary abilities to turn into a decent essayist; notwithstanding, I should be happy to learn through preliminary anderror. Our sythesis educator endures our slip-ups and causes us to improve composing skills,so I donâ't terrified of committing errors no more. In this manner I believe recorded as a hard copy and I canexpress myself more than previously. At some point in the event that I become an instructor I will give a valiant effort to makewriting something my understudies discover charming and fun contrasted with exhausting and monotonous.

Free Essays - All Quiet on the Western Front :: All Quiet on the Western Front Essays

All Quiet on the Western Front  Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the best war books ever. It is a story, not of Germans, however of men, who despite the fact that they may have gotten away from shells, were devastated by the war.  The whole reason for this novel is to delineate the clear awfulness and crude nature of war and to change the prevalent view that war is an optimistic and sentimental character.  The story focuses on Paul Baümer, who enrolls in the German armed force with gleaming enthusiasm.  But throughout war, he is devoured by it and at long last is tired, broken, wore out, rootless, and without hope.  Through Baümer, Remarque analyzes how war makes man inhuman.  He utilizes incredible words and expressions to portray vital subtleties to this topic.  The first bomb, the primary blast, burst in our hearts.  Baümer and his schoolmates who enrolled into the military see the genuine truth of the war.  They enter the war straight from school, realizing nothing aside from the earth of cheerful youth and they go to an untimely development with the war, their lone home. We were eighteen and had started to cherish life and the world; and we needed to shoot it to pieces.  We are not youth any more. They have lost their innocents.  Everything they are instructed, the universe of work, obligation, culture, and progress are not the smallest use to them in light of the fact that the main thing they have to know is the way to survive.  They have to realize how to get away from the shells just as the passionate and mental torment of the war.  The war negatively affects the warriors who battle in it. The dread of death will invade the brains of officers and achieve repulsive pictures of death and obliteration until they separate and go to pieces.  Consistently and ordinary, each shell and each demise cuts this slender [line of sanity], and the years squander it rapidly.  In these perilous minutes, anyone would have gone frantic, have abandoned their post, or have fallen.  It takes an uncommon sort of fighter to manage this psychological mistreatment; a trooper who won't turn out badly at seeing a damaged body; it takes a warrior like Baümer.  Baümer has become used to it; war is the reason for death like flu and diarrhea.

Why Is The Found Footage Genre Still A Thing - 1329 Words

Why is the found-footage genre still a thing? It’s almost like â€Å"fetch† at this point, filmmakers need to stop trying to make found-footage happen. It’s like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s friend on a plane, it’s dead tired. In all seriousness, I do still think there’s hope for the found-footage genre, but that kind of salvation can only come about when the people backing these films learn to remedy a few of the more problematic elements that have long plagued the genre. One of the biggest red flags that I frequently notice in found-footage films are the characters. Unlike most other films, you, whether you like it or not, are intimately connected directly to these characters. That’s why I feel the genre has this massive untapped potential, it can†¦show more content†¦When your film is riddled with characters like these, that’s when films stop being escapism and instead begin to closely resemble the very thing you wish to escape in the first place. I’m not saying remove all annoyances from your film, I’m saying maybe don’t make them the focal point of the entire picture. Another problem with found-footage films is character development, or lack there of. I get it, it’s not easy to develop characters when you can only tell the story from their perspective, but it is possible. Thus far, these films have been giving their characters exaggerated personality traits in order to compensate for the one-sided perspective. The best found-footage films use situations to develop characters through the way they react to them, that’s something ‘Chronicle’ did immensly well. ‘Chronicle’ established its main character through the events that he endured on camera, being beaten by his step-dad, watching his mother slowly fade away, being bullied at school, it all culminated in what would come to be a very broken person. This film does use the bullying angle, but it explores the perspective of the bully without any sort of consequences, when you do that, it’s not character development, that’s aggravating. It’ s almost the intention of the filmmakers, this film wants you to hate that character, which isn’t an uncommon technique in horror

How do we know Essay Example For Students

How do we know? Essay That is the main TOK question, how do we know? Well we know through our experience, senses, knowledge, and reasoning etc. What is reasoning? For me its a claim, which supports essential processes, interactions, relationship; as well we base our reasoning on some knowledge in order to find some truth. However, reasoning as knowledge can be objective and subjective. On the picture on the left you see an apple; it is a usual apple, grown up somewhere in America. For a 3 year old child, its just a red apple with a nice smell. Apple has these traits and without child or person trying it, therefore this knowledge is objective, it exists without any other influence. But when kid is eating it, an apple becomes tasty, or bitter, in other words it becomes a subjective knowledge. I. e. the girl on the picture is eating an apple; she is excited and happy, the apple is tasty for her, she just experienced that, its subjective. Therefore, reasoning might be defined as, just an objective knowledge existing without any external effects and as knowledge based on our (individual) experience. Now lets see, examples of reasoning of an Apple in different areas of knowledge. As far as I choose reasoning for my TOK topic, for me I thought that the closest area of knowledge to reasoning is a science. So thats what im going to talk about now. Everyone knows Newton Gravity Law, or Newtons Laws of Dynamics. There is a legend that Newton found out Gravitational Law, while he was lying under the tree, suddenly apple fell down on his head, and he got the idea of gravitation. The thing is that apple itself doesnt carry any gravitational meaning, its only Sir Isaac Newton (for any other guy it probably will not have any effect) had a previous knowledge, and for him it was a subjective reasoning, and apple was understood as an object going down with an acceleration g, later understood as weight. Since, Universal Gravitational Law was founded science start developing really fast; Newton actually opened a new world for science and created a fundament for everything that we have nowadays, i. e. technology, Cosmo rockets etc. And here reasoning can be said as a positive effect, human civilization developed, now we know more than 200 years ago, and it can be considered as a strong side of reasoning as a way of knowing. As well human development sometimes can lead to some cruel effects. It can be seen or studies in the area of knowledge, called Humanities or social Sciences. You know that with development of a certain society, the system (doesnt matter economical system, or technology) absorbs values of people. For example, I live in Almaty, in the city which is famous for their apples. Its even translated from Kazakh as an apple town. Before Almaty, was a city full of apple gardens, right now on the place of theses beautiful apple trees we have roads and expensive cottages for rich people. As far as we are a developing country, we have our own economy, different business spheres; it brings more profit to invest in new buildings, rather than into growing trees. If thinking rationally, on one hand true may be selling houses is really profitable, however on the other our cultural descents that brought apples here and made an apple our cultural characteristic is disappearing now. Now apple its not an object of pride of each citizen of Almaty, now its a good that can give you a lot of money if you know how to sell it. In the particular situation an apple carries a cultural value, which is subjective according to the history of the city where it was grown up first. On the other hand, an apple is a good which carries an economical characteristic such as price which is more important in this system of values. So that, civilization, development absorbed the cultural values, which I consider as negative effect of reasoning. .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .postImageUrl , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:hover , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:visited , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:active { border:0!important; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:active , .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6 .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u64e888e24f50ff371f4bb142fd3ac3d6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Confucianism, the philosophical system founded on EssayAs well, I would like to talk about Arts, as another area of knowledge. The arts make our world more beautiful, because it is actually beautiful, you just need to see it, and Arts opens this opportunity for us. The Arts of course include paintings, poems, literature, and music and so on. For example if we take an apple in Arts, what associations do you have? When you here this word? Well as for me, I immediately start thinking about Kalliste, an apple that claimed For the most beautiful one. If you know the legend, Paris supposed to give it to the most beautiful goddess, he gave it to Aphrodite.

Old Man And The Sea Essays (877 words) - Fisheries, Ichthyology

Old Man And The Sea After reading this novel, The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway, I was confused about something the old man kept repeating. During the course of the book, the old man, Santiago, refers to having gone out to far to catch the fish. To me, this sounds as though he is making excuses for himself as to why he could not bring the fish in. On the other hand, he may have realized that he should not have gone out so far because it was not worth it for everything he puts himself and the fish through. I reread over these parts and came to a conclusion about this problem. We know that Santiago sets out on the eighty-fifth day earlier than normal to get a head start on what he believes to be the day he will catch something. He does catch something and it just happens to be the biggest fish he has ever seen in his life. He does everything he can to hook the fish and once hooked; the fish carries him out to sea, moving further and further away from land. The man knows he is not prepared for what is to come but does not let this discourage him and keeps on trying. This tells me that Santiago is courageously devoted to his life of fishing After three days at sea, managing the marlin, and more importantly hunger, he brings the fish in and attaches it to the side of his boat. When the first of the sharks come, he does everything in order to defend himself, but as unprepared as he was, his actions are almost useless. This is when he first says to himself and the marlin beside him, I shouldn't have gone out so far, fish. Neither for you nor me. I'm sorry fish (110). The old man had considered the fish his friend and also a brother the entire time he had been trying to kill it. To me, this asserts a problem. The old man is a fisherman. His life is fishing. There should be no reason to feel sorry for the fish or for himself. Even though the fish he caught is being ripped to shreds by the sharks feeding on it, he caught it and that is what fishing is all about. When he finally finds his way home, with nothing left but the carcass of the marlin left next to him, he asks himself what beat him. His answer is Nothing. I went out to far (120) By telling himself that the only thing he did wrong was go out to far, he is making excuses for himself. He was unprepared for the hunger that would strike him and defenseless against the sharks that would attack his marlin. These were the things that beat him. If he had stopped and let the fish go because he was getting out to far from land, then it would have been the fish that had beat him. Anyway, you look at the situation; the old man was going to lose in the end. The quote above, I went out to far sounds like an admission of defeat but Nothing seems as though he is saying that nothing beat him. Despite the fact that he is defeated by the sharks that took away his prize fish, he has also, in a way, won. He has won the respect of the townspeople that see the carcass and realize what the man had before it was taken from him piece by piece. He has also gained knowledge of being more prepared. As he tells the boy in the end, We must get a good killing lance and always have it on board. You can make the blade from a spring leaf from an old Ford (125). If the man had not gone out so far, then he would have never experienced what he did. He would have come home empty handed and wondered for the rest of his life, if he would have been able to bring the marlin back home with him. And in a way, he did bring it home, by bringing the carcass. The old man's reason for saying that he went out to far is to make himself feel better. He feels bad for destroying the fish and getting nothing out of it

Introduction to Electricity and Electronics

Introduction to Electricity and Electronics Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons.  All matter is made up of atoms, which has a center called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons and uncharged particles called neutrons. The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of protons. When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. And when electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement of these electrons constitutes an electric current. Humans and electricity Electricity is a basic part of nature and it is one of our most widely used forms of energy. Humans get electricity, which is a secondary energy source, from the conversion of other sources of energy, like coal, natural gas, oil and nuclear power. The original natural sources of electricity are called primary sources. Many cities and towns were built alongside waterfalls (a primary source of mechanical energy) that turned  water wheels  to perform work. And before electricity generation began slightly over 100 years ago, houses were lit with kerosene lamps, food was cooled in iceboxes, and rooms were warmed by wood-burning or coal-burning stoves. Beginning with  Benjamin Franklins  experiment with a kite one stormy night in Philadelphia, the principles of electricity gradually became understood. In the mid-1800s, everyones life changed with the invention of the electric  light bulb. Prior to 1879, electricity had been used in arc lights for outdoor lighting. The lightbulbs invention used electricity to bring indoor lighting to our homes. Generating electricity An electric generator (Long ago, a machine that generated electricity was named dynamo todays preferred term is generator) is a device for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. The process is based on the relationship between magnetism and electricity. When a wire or any other electrically conductive material moves across a magnetic field, an electric current occurs in the wire. The large generators used by the electric utility industry have a stationary conductor. A magnet attached to the end of a rotating shaft is positioned inside a stationary conducting ring that is wrapped with a long, continuous piece of wire. When the magnet rotates, it induces a small electric current in each section of wire as it passes. Each section of wire constitutes a small, separate electric conductor. All the small currents of individual sections add up to one current of considerable size. This current is what is used for electric power. An electric utility power station uses either a turbine, engine, water wheel, or other similar machine to drive an electric generator or device that converts mechanical or chemical energy to electricity. Steam turbines, internal-combustion engines, gas combustion turbines, water turbines, and wind turbines are the most common methods to generate electricity.

Memori Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Memori - Essay Example It all begun with a disagreement on matters of tribe and religion between my father a friend he had made soon after we had moved in to Australia. They had become easy friends especially in view of the fact that both of them and their families were Muslims in a predominantly Christian country. On that fateful day, the man invited my family to visit him and my father was glad to accept, my sister and I were ecstatic about the prospect of meeting other children since we had been told he had other girls with whom we could play with. The home was tastefully furnished and the decor bespoke a moderate but style conscious lifestyle, there were several Muslim texts displayed on a glass display giving the impression that the man was deeply religious like my father. The kitchen was beautifully decorated and from the excitement my mother showed as she examined the furnishings I could tell it was everything she had ever dreamt of in her ideal kitchen. After refreshments, my sister and I went upst airs to play with the little girls as the grownups talked in the living room. While the room was not decorated it looked just like as small looking box with two pink beds it had hundreds of toys. I had more fun than we could remember playing dress up with them especially when they gave us dresses to match theirs. I was given an elegant blue dress adorned with beautiful pink flowers, and it looked and felt so fantastic I could not find words to describe the feeling, I felt like a princess. We also played with their doll house which was full of tiny plates and chairs and for four hours, we forgot that there was a world outside our secluded heaven of fun and games just like Alice in wonderland. Although my family relatively close, I never really felt a very close connection with them, my father was a workaholic and he spent most of his time working or studying to be a doctor. My mother rarely had time for me since she was too busy being a health freak and monitoring our diet and making us eat â€Å"healthy,† while my sister was close to my age I did not find her very good since she seemed to only copy what I did. My two brothers are the last people I would play with since they are not only serious but very reserved and we almost never notice them since they seem lost each in their own world. Therefore, these two girls were the best thing to happen to me and we got along beautifully coming up with different games and I was sure they would be my friends forever. This is what made the events that followed so painful, I had convinced myself I had found my true best friends and I was to spend the rest of my childhood pinning for them knowing I would never have another chance to play with them. Abruptly, we were jerked back into the harsh realities of the outside world, strange noises were coming from the living room and there was shouting and banging of tables. The door to the bedroom was opened and my mother quickly dragged us from our new playmates were silen t with bewilderment just as we were. The girl’s mother was calm, mine looked terrified but their father and mine were each livid, I had never seen my father as angry as he was on that night, his pulsating veins seemed to push through his skin threatening to bust through and he looked as if he was on the edge of saying something but didn’t say a word. The girl’s father was equally angry and as they stood across from each other in the sitting room looking like

Indias Participation in Global Economy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Indias Participation in Global Economy - Essay Example The Indian society is now subject to western imperialism and quite a distinct reflection of the western culture, styles, and language and business activity. The economic environment of India, after the reforms has predominantly changed from socialist policies to more liberal policies, facilitating an expansion of international trade. Some cultural values are very strongly established amongst the Indian workforce and may deter further expansion of international trade but Indian culture is one of business orientation because of its historical significance and industrial background and thus strongly supports trade activity. Yet there remain some economic challenges that may deter further growth of the economy. These include an inadequate infrastructure to support a growth rate of 8%. With so much international pressures to quality conformance and timely production, India must invest in up gradation of its ports, rail networks, roads, and power and water supplies. Hence, in order for Ind ia to capitalise on its economic benefits, it must overcome these economic challenges and increase its international market presence by developing indigenous brands and thus expanding international trade. 1.Problem Identification and Analysis With the highest population in the world of about 1.1 billion, second largest to China, India has made its way amongst the world’s leading economies in the year 2007. ... ccording to the World Bank Report, its economic growth rate was 8%, close to 10.4% of China, despite the high dependence of its economy on the agricultural sector (World Bank 2004). Recently the economy has moved towards massive production orientation in the manufacturing sector and there has been an observable proliferation of information technology and telecommunications. It is the augmentation within this sector, the software companies and call centres that have fuelled the economic growth in India. India has developed the right infrastructure to facilitate this rapid economic growth through development of an educated, English speaking workforce and thus has become a hub for outsourcing for large multinationals and overseas services to US companies (Banik 2007). Many companies like Ford Motors, General Motors and software companies have subcontracted their business services including customer service support, business support and troubleshooting computers, to this sector of Asia. Moreover, the country also has some skilled personnel to conduct customer surveys and research that provides the foundation for its international trade. Many companies are considering outsourcing their most expensive marketing process that is research, to the low cost researchers in India (Suresh 1999). The main reason that has fuelled this structural change is the emergence of a class characterised with young business professionals. It is also the culture of the country that promotes diligence, struggle and goal orientation (Kumar and Agarwal, Liberalization, Outward Orientation and In-house R&D activities of multinationals and local firms 2000). Therefore, the impact of globalization has been tremendous on Indian economy. With more and more companies looking to outsource in attempt to

Clarion Boys Case Essay Example for Free

Clarion Boys Case Essay One problem in the Clarion School for Boys case is that employees did not have enough training on the system. On the survey taken, most employees responded that they were dissatisfied with the training they had received and most had training of only 1-3 hours. Since there was little training given on the system, the users were uncomfortable using it. It seemed that if they could not figure something out, they would give up and go back to doing it the old way. The bookkeeper commented, â€Å"I have been trying to finish this month’s books for the last two days, but I am having the same problems as last month. The accounts receivable software program is still giving me difficulties. I think I’ll just do them by hand this month.† When the system was first installed, the staff was excited about it but as time passed and there was no learning progression of the system, people became bored with it and stopped using it as much. Another comment made by the education supervisor was, â€Å"There was a lot of initial excitement about e-mail, but I haven’t heard much about it since then. I know I’ve been too busy to lean it myself, and I missed the training sessions because of other meetings.† I personally worked with a company where a new system was implemented and because of the lack of training and tutorials, there were major problems. For months the system was incorrect, causing many hours of overtime as well as many mess ups that had to be corrected. Familiar to this case, there was not a plan of action nor any goals set or a timeline for certain projects to be mastered. There was a lack of training causing the staff to have little confidence in their abilities to work the system. This problem falls under strategic planning. One component of strategic planning is training. Under strategic planning, the employees should be encouraged to be active in the system. They should be encouraged through training programs and help sessions. The team should establish goals and time lines of what they want to have accomplished by a specific date. In this case, there was not a formal plan or measures set. They were not able to judge how they were doing because they did not make a strategic plan to begin. I think this is a minor problem. I think the major problem is that once the system was implemented, there was no enforcement created. It seemed that the users did not want to get out of their comfort zone and learn something new. There was not much communication at the beginning and everyone seemed to be doing their own thing.

An Overview of Capital Punishment Essay -- Capital Punishment Death Pe

â€Å"The question with which we must deal is not whether a substantial proportion of American citizens would today, if polled, opine that capital punishment is barbarously cruel, but whether they would find it to be so in light of all information presently available.†- Justice Thurgood Marshall Imagine a man who commits murder once, is given a fifteen-year jail sentence and is returned to the streets where he kills again. He is imprisoned again only to be released. This could happen since almost one in ten death row inmates has been convicted of murder at least once. That means that some death row inmates have been given more than one chance to rehabilitate in prison and continue to commit violent crimes. Should the United States justice system continue to let violent criminals back on the streets where they are likely to commit murder again? Capital punishment is one of the oldest forms of punishment in the world. Most societies have considered it a fair punishment for severe crimes. It is even mentioned as an appropriate punishment in the Bible. American colonists used capital punishment before the United States was a country, and most states use it today. Currently, however, there is a great deal of controversy surrounding the death penalty. Capital cases are long and expensive, and there is no proof as to whether capital punishment deters crime. For these reasons total abolition may be the best way to resolve the capital punishment controversy. If the laws concerning capital punishment were modified, however, capital punishment could become much cheaper, and possibly a lot more effective. – Steve Brinker Capital Punishment: Give It A Chance Since the beginning of man, people have been put to death. Capital punishment has been used all over the world as a means of punishing people for their crimes. Here in America, people are usually given a trial for their crime, judged upon by the jury and judge, and then finally decided upon their final verdict. If the crime is serious enough, the person is sent to spend time on death row in a maximum-security prison. The judge then sets a date when the person is to be executed. The person has an opportunity to appeal, which must be granted by the governor in the state in which the person is imprisoned. If the pers... ...al punishment has been an instrument of government authority since it was first written into Hammurabi’s Code nearly four thousand years ago, if not before. In today’s modern, more â€Å"enlightened† times, many find the practice barbaric, and object on principle. Others believe the practice is sometimes justified, but object on grounds of iniquities in its application. Still others believe capital punishment lacks â€Å"teeth†, and would be a more effective deterrent to crime if used less sparingly, and with less of the Byzantine judicial process currently required. Recent reforms here in Florida reflect the latter view. In an effort to reduce the time actually spent on Death Row by the condemned, the State of Florida is altering its law to require that all appeals be complete within five years of sentencing in the absence of new evidence, and must be submitted simultaneously, not sequentially. At the same time, other states, such as Illinois, have imposed a moratorium on executions. It is an issue few are in total agreement about. Most Americans, however, agree that in the most heinous, horrific cases, the condemned has earned his fate.

Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay

In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows what the true reality is. According to some researchers, â€Å"A staple of Elizabethan and Shakespearean drama was dramatic irony† (Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, â€Å" One of the more prominent literary devices in the play is irony† (Sauer 673).Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to the conflict that exists between the Capulets and the Montagues in Shakespeare’s, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Dramatic irony in Romeo and Juliet occurs when Juliet and Romeo fall in love with each other at first sig ht, when Romeo’s friends don’t know that Romeo and Juliet have fallen in love with each other, and when Lady Capulet thinks that Juliet is crying about Paris, not Romeo. Romeo in the beginning of the play had been crying about how he could not get Rosaline, a Capulet. After all of the crying and weeping, Benvolio and Mercutio try to get Romeo to go to a party at the Capulet house. Romeo only agrees so that he might be able to catch a glimpse of Rosaline. When he goes to the party, rather than falling for Rosaline, he sees another beautiful girl that he instantly falls in love with. This girl is Juliet, the cousin of Rosaline, and she also falls in love with Romeo at first sight as well. Romeo and Juliet meet, they dance, but still do not know who each other are. Romeo before leaving the party asks the nurse who that girl (Juliet) is and she replies by saying that Juliet is the daughter of Lady Capulet.Romeo is taken away completely by this and says, â€Å"O dear accoun t! My life is my foe’s debt† (Romeo and Juliet 1. 5. 118). Juliet also asks the nurse and the nurse responds by saying that Romeo is a Montague, and like just like Romeo, she is also taken away. The dramatic irony of this is the fact that Romeo’s (Montague) and Juliet (Capulet) families are very high profile enemies to each other. The fact that they have fallen in love with each other is a very ironic, as now if they continue their love to one another, they are sure to face major problems down the line. After both Romeo and Juliet have fallen in love with each other, nobody in all of Verona and beyond knows about it, not a single person except Romeo and Juliet. Many people still believe that Romeo is still falling for Rosaline. In fact, at one point Mercutio exclaimed, â€Å"Why that same pale hearted wench, that Rosaline torments him, so that he will sure run mad† (Romeo and Juliet 2. 4. 4-5). Even until after their marriage, both Romeo and Juliet are pret ty secretive about the love or the marriage, except for Juliet expressing her feeling to the nurse.Juliet only told the nurse because she loves the nurse and trusted her as well, and needed the help of the nurse to get married to Romeo. The first time that the majority of people would know about the marriage or love would be when Friar Lawrence would publicly announce it to Verona. The dramatic irony in all of this is the fact that after all of the major events (fights, family brawls, and the murder of Mercutio and Tybalt), no one knows that one of the Capulets is married to one of the Montagues. Something like this at the time period would be extremely unacceptable, and even in the time period would be ironic. After news of the murder of Tybalt and Mercutio is delivered to Juliet through the Nurse, Juliet is devastated. Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, an d her first reaction to this is anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection to people, whatsoever.Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life, at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, â€Å"Juliet feels that Romeo is no longer her lover, and she can’t have him again† (Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, â€Å"Well, girl thou weep’st not so much for his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered himâ⠂¬ (Romeo and Juliet 3. . 65-66). Juliet had just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasn't crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. Dramatic irony was a driving method of keeping things fresh in Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. One of the most prominent instances of dramatic irony in the play was when Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other, causing for great irony in the fact that they did not know.Another instance of dramatic irony is when nobody but Romeo and Juliet know about the love that they share, making great irony because a lot of events occur after their marriage. And finally another instance of dramatic irony is when Juliet tricks her mother into thinking that she is crying to Tybalt rather than Romeo. If in any of these examples, Romeo and Juliet were to know what was going to happe n, there really would be no story. It was important that Shakespeare implemented dramatic irony into the play, as without it, the story would be quite plain and boring.
